In 1999, Tinnelly Group had the honour of being awarded the demolition of the Hogan Stand, Croke Park.
With the Cusack Stand redevelopment completed during a previous phase, it was then time for the Hogan.
We rolled in with the wrecking ball, crawler crane NCK545, a mobile 25 tonne Coles crane, a few hoists and man-riding baskets along with some Liebherr 932s, in the days before we had the high reach.
This equipment combined at the time, allowed the team to climb the heights of the Hogan in man riding baskets and hoists.
The hoists gave us access to the roof of the Hogan to remove asbestos safely and controlled. The concrete was demolished using the NCK545 with drop ball demolition.
The upper style structures were removed using oxy propane cutting equipment via man-riding baskets and hoists and the steel structures were then lowered to the ground by crane.
The upper tier of the Hogan was demolished by a 3 tonne ball, and the lower tiers by the Liebherr excavators.
All of this was completed without touching a blade of grass of the hollowed Croke Park turf.
Looking back at this project, if we were to undertake it today we would approach it with a totally different plan.
This was another project Tinnelly Group were proud to deliver.
