Demolition of Blackrock Clinic

Tinnelly Group completed the demolition of a clinic within Blackrock Health Clinic, in Dublin back in 2009.

For this project there were a number of stages in order to complete the full demolition project.

This project involved a range of demolition methods from manual strip out to the use of a tower crane. For the strip out methods our team firstly created a dust seal, this was to enclose the area of works prior to the soft strip out. Polythene 500 gauge was glued to the internal face of the wall with all doors locked and voids sealed. Stud frames were also created against any windows and a negative pressure unit was also attached to draw any internal dust out of the works area.

Operatives completed the strip out of non structural items, stud walling, carpets etc.. they were broke into manageable sections and double bagged within the dust enclosure. They were then removed from works area to a located skip.

For the demolition of the stair core, we were tasked to remove the concrete hollow core capping to the top of the stair core and remove an up stand wall on top of the landing. The joints were exposed of the capping slab, using an electric road saw operatives broke the bond and cut the slab into small sections ready for lifting to the designated skip. Four tonne slings were then slung around the slab and the slab removed. The crane placed the slab into the skip ready for disposal.

Demolition then of the Atrium Skylight was completed, above the skylight a 7.4m x 7.3m steel frame supported on precast concrete blocks. This frame weighed 995kg and was lifted down in one lift.

The frame once lifted down was dismantled on the tarmac where it was then loaded onto flatbed trailer. Operatives removed the 4 plastic skylights allowing the aluminium frame to be double slung at 4 lifting points. Once on the tarmac the frame was cut and disposed off.

Operatives on the working platform will sling each sky light beam individually which was lifted by tower crane.

Another part of this project was the removal of the pond feature within the clinic on the ground floor. A dust seal was established around the area of works and operatives completed a soft strip out first, a pathway was then created for a mini digger to operate in the centre of the pond. Using a pulverising attachment the mini digger operated a controlled demolition of the pond.

This was another project Tinnelly Group were proud to deliver.
