On this day 19 years ago, 13th March 2005, Tinnelly Group over seen the demolition of Sean McDermott Tower by controlled explosion.
This was one of the famous seven towers in Ballymun and would change Dublin’s skyline for ever.
The 15 storey block was one of the towers capable of being demolished by controlled explosion. Over 60kg of highly explosive material was used to trigger 30 detonations in the building.
The 138ft building took just 5 seconds to collapse. Prior to this, our team spent months in preparation, getting the building ready for this day.
It took one month following the collapse to clear over 8,500 tons of rubble. The demolition was part of the 2.5 billion regeneration blitz which was taking place in Dublin at the time.
Another project the Tinnelly Group were proud to deliver.
